How long does it take to make a Bert?+
About 3–4 weeks at mom's sewing table, plus shipping. Mom only takes a few commissions at a time so each one gets her full attention — for birthdays and holidays, please reserve about 6 weeks ahead.
How does the deposit work?+
A $75 deposit reserves your spot on mom's table. Once she emails you to confirm your design (usually within 2 business days), she'll invoice the remaining balance. The deposit is fully refundable if she can't take your commission for any reason.
Where do you ship?+
Domestic shipping in the US is included. International shipping is available — mom will quote it personally based on your country when she follows up. We've shipped Berts to Canada, the UK, and Australia.
How do I care for my Bert?+
Bert is a hand-stitched textile, not a machine-washable plush. Spot clean with mild soap and a damp cloth. Air dry — never tumble. Done right, your Bert will outlive a lot of furniture.
Can I change my order after I reserve?+
Yes — until mom starts cutting fabric. Just reply to her confirmation email with what you'd like to change. Once she's started sewing, the design is locked in.
Can mom make a custom puppet that isn't Bert?+
Sometimes! Mom has made costumes and puppets for our family for decades (Muppets family costumes, a two-person Clifford the Big Red Dog, you name it). For now PuppetMom is focused on Berts — but if you have an idea, email us and we'll add you to the custom-project waitlist.
Can I send a reference photo?+
Yes — once mom emails you to confirm your order, just reply with any photos or notes about colors, the kid receiving it, etc. The more she knows, the more personal the puppet.
