For the makers

From mom's original
1986 pattern.

Why a PuppetMom pattern

Not another generic plush pattern.

This is the same pattern that made the original Bert in 1986 — refined every time mom sewed another one.

Honest expectations

Skill level & what you'll need.

Skill level

Confident beginner → intermediate.

If you can sew a pillow with a zipper, you can sew Bert. The trickiest bits (the face, the long arms) get extra-detailed instructions and photos.

Time: A relaxed weekend — about 6–8 hours of sewing.

You'll need

A few basics.

  • • Sewing machine + hand-sewing needle
  • • ~½ yard of faux fur (your color choice)
  • • Scrap of felt for the face
  • • Polyester fiberfill stuffing
  • • Safety eyes (or felt eyes for little kids)
  • • Thread, scissors, pins — the usual suspects
